For simplicity I am just posting in the nature of an ad, my reply to a member who was looking for dimensions for companionway boards. That got me to thinking of these beauties just gathering dust in my closet. The price is firm and you will have to include shipping, probably around $20.00. If you ever tried to build a pair of these, the price will not seem out of line, at all. Andy: I don't know if this would interest you, but I, lovingly and painstakingly built P-30 companionway boards from carefully selected marine grade 3/4" mahogany faced - both sides - plywood. This is the type of wood that uses specially waterproof glues and has no voids. I then gave the finished boards 4 coats of Epiphanes varnish using the recommended dilution with a final coat undiluted. I installed the original Pearson stainless tang guide and tested the boards for proper, non-stick, fit in the boat. For reason's not worth going into here, but available to anyone who is interested, I am going to use my old boards after all. These new, glamorous boards represent $100 in material costs and a couple of hundred in labor, finish and fittings. $300 is a lot of money for boards that get knocked around a good deal, but for the right person with the right Pearson, it will same a lot of time and actually is worth the price. Remember, not only do the boards need to be cut, curved and beveled, the fit at the division has to be precise to prevent water from wicking between them and causing rot. Then the tang guide has to be located carefully. I am not promoting anyone to buy these from me, if all they want is a way to secure the boat. You can do this by cutting a single board from a piece of cheap 1/2' ply and painting it. But, if your boat is a show piece and you want boards that match, these are the ones. My boat is not, and that's the reason these are availalbe. If you build your own, best of luck and please let the forum know whether or not I am exaggerating the work involved. The devil is in the details, which we rarely think of ahead of time. For example, just one of many details: How about sanding between each coat of varnish, then vacuuming and finally wiping down with a tack cloth. This takes a good 15 minutes multiplied by 4 times, once for each coat. And that's just one small part of this love affair we call sailing!
