We were very successful in eliminating diesel oder by using an enzyme based bilge cleaner. The brand I used was Target (not the department store chain) but I am told that they may not be in business. If not, there are several brands that make a similar product. Just make sure it has bacterial enzymes in it. These enzyms, or "bugs" as they are sometimes refered to are what are used to clean up oil spills. I keep some in a spray can to spray around any fuel I spill when changing filters. If the odor persists, the bilge is dry, and you know that you don't have a leak (fuel has permiated the glass or wood) the "expensive" way to treat it is to get an ozone generator. That will remove ALL smell from the boat as well as mold. Don't give up. We got rid of all the smell after a major spill in the bilge of our P-36.
