JP: Sorry so late in responding to your question. I've been away for a week. As far as removal of the shaft without removing the rudder, I had to remove my rudder to remove the shaft, but the cutlass bearing was left in tact. I'm not certain if you could remove the shaft if the bearing is removed as well. Craig
