I have owned a 1986 Pearson 33 with a keel/centerboard configuration since 1991. At the time of purchase, the surveyor noted that some sort of filler material was used in the last 12 inches where the keel met the hull. Since then, the area has been "recaulked" once. I've never noticed any problem with the keel, no noise or vibration. No evidence of cracking in the bilge where the keel bolts are, keel boats seem tight. I've never grounded. > When the boat was hauled in November, the marina took the attached pictures and expressed concern that the keel was, in fact, separating from the hull. They have never noted a concern about this before. > >Anyone familiar with similar problems in Pearson 33's or other sailboats? >Based on the photos, what is your opinion? >How would you recommend we proceed in diagnosing/correcting the >problem, if it is one? > >Can you give me some worst case/best case magnitude of what the problem might involve and cost? Can anyone recommend a yard in the Chestertown MD or Annapolis MD area that might be good at this sort of thing? I can't attach the photos to this e-mail -- I'd be glad to e-mail them directly if anyone is interested.
